Tottenham fans took to Twitter to praise Erik Lamela for his bright cameo in their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday night.
Lamela made his comeback after more than 13 months on the sidelines with a late substitute appearance against Claude Puel’s side at the King Power Stadium.
With Tottenham 2-0 down to first-half goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, Mauricio Pochettino introduced Lamela as the third of his replacements, with the Argentine coming on for the ineffective Christian Eriksen.
The Argentina international made an impact, laying off the assist for Harry Kane’s goal that gave Spurs hope of securing a share of the spoils.
However, Tottenham could not add another goal and continued their poor run of Premier League form, which could leave them seventh in the table if Liverpool and Burnley win on Wednesday night.
That did not the White Hart Lane faithful championing Lamela, who was welcomed back after a lengthy lay-off in which he had undergone double hip surgery.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
This is the worst I’ve seen Eriksen play in years. Pretty evident that the squad is overexerted. Alderweireld’s absence is so evident. Positive was good to see Lamela back and assisting our only goal of the game. #Coys

Tottenham with another trash result. No finishing, no chemistry… I’m not sold on Llorente at all tbh…Need some movement in January. At least Lamela is back. Now we just need Alderwerield and a strong holiday run #COYS #THFC

Sissoko can be amazing. He was lacking confidence this game (as most games). Poch wants to get him firing. He can take players on, but seems to can’t anymore. Lamela looked good. #COYS

Was very refreshing to see lamela play again for us. I’ve always, ALWAYS been a massive fan of him because he takes risks in the final third, isn’t afraid to get on the ball and takes his man on #coys #Lamela #OnToTheNextOne ???????????? pic.twitter.com/BL0VXaFISm
