Lord Alan Sugar has slammed Tottenham for allowing Danny Rose to stay at the club after his infamous rant at their transfer policy.

The former Spurs owner and chairman has claimed the Spurs hierarchy should not have tolerated Rose’s public outburst and he should have been “dead meat, gone”.

Rose broke ranks in early August in an explosive interview in which he said he is worth more than Tottenham are paying him and would consider an offer from another club.

“If you go back to the great Sir Alex Ferguson, if he had a player like Danny Rose make a statement like he did in the media, he would have been dead meat, gone,” said Sugar in a Premier League preview show to be broadcast on Thursday night, as highlighted on the BBC Sport Twitter account.

“And that’s what I can’t understand about the Tottenham hierarchy, really. Even though he’s a good player, even though you might need him, sometimes your pride and dignity needs to send out a message to the others.”

Billionaire businessman Lord Sugar spent 10 years at the helm of Tottenham and 17 years as a shareholder.

OPINION

Spurs chief Daniel Levy is no shrinking violet and, certainly, not one to be pushed around. But he took the sensible and correct decision by not showing Rose the exit door in the summer. The defender’s outburst was selfish and at odds with the interests of Tottenham, but it would have sent the wrong message by allowing him to kick up a public stink to get a pay rise, or a move. Especially when he was injured and not even contributing to the team. Rose is a fine player, and was in the form of his life when he got injured, but he needs to concentrate on regaining his form and trying to win back his starting place rather than messing with Levy and Mauricio Pochettino.
