Newcastle United are preparing a bid to sign Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw on loan in January, according to the Mirror.

It is believed that United boss Jose Mourinho is open to letting Shaw go out on loan in January, with the Portuguese publicly critical of the defender during his tenure at Old Trafford.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is a fan of the 22-year-old however, and believes the young flyer can reignite his career by playing regularly on Tyneside.

Benitez is reportedly desperate to bring in a left-back, and has endured problems in the position all season.

Good move for Newcastle United?

There is no reason to suggest that with a bit of faith from a new manager and minutes on the pitch that Shaw cannot regain form.

The young defender was once regarded as one of England’s best talents, but has had his career stall through a combination of bad luck and bad attitude.

Benitez is desperate for a quality left-back, and has been scrambling to fill that position all season after Paul Dummett’s injury on opening day.

With Benitez still unsure of whether he will have funds to spend in January, a loan move for a promising youngster would seem to be the best move possible for him right now.

Likely to happen?

It is pretty clear that Shaw does not have a future at Old Trafford under Mourinho. The Portuguese boss has been heavily critical of the 22-year-old, and Shaw evidently needs to leave to get games.

Newcastle would be a good option for him. They are a big club who are on the way up, led by a manager with vast experience. They are also in dire need of a left-back.

Mourinho is reportedly open to a loan deal for Shaw, and there is no real reason why he wouldn’t let the youngster go to Newcastle.

If the reported interest is real, then this is a deal which could actually happen.
