Sky pundit Danny Mills has revealed he was “disappointed” with the performance of Tottenham defender Danny Rose on Friday night for England.

The 27-year-old started for Gareth Southgate’s side at Wembley as they drew 0-0 against Germany in an international friendly.

He was used as the left wing-back for England and his rival for the permanent position Ryan Bertrand replace him in the second-half.

Rose is now returning to full fitness after a nine-month layoff with a knee injury and will be hoping to ensure he makes the 2018 World Cup squad.

The full-back has jut returned from his injury setback recently and played three times for Spurs this season.

Mills has explained that he was slightly underwhelmed by Rose’s display against Germany and feels he struggled to show the defensive side of his game.

He was involved in a tough battle with Germany and Bayern Munich right-back Joshua Kimmich, with the pair cancelling each other out in the end.

“I was a little bit disappointed with Rose,” Mills wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

“I know he’s coming back from injury, and maybe that’s why he didn’t look completely sharp, and wasn’t able to get up and down the pitch.”

OPINION

It will take time for Rose to return to his best after such a long absence and there were signs of rustiness against Germany, but it was only a friendly match and he wasn’t the only England player to have a quiet night. The defender was arguably the best left-back in the Premier League before his knee problems and Spurs would love for him to return to that sort of form. He currently needs to focus on trying to overtake Ben Davies in the Spurs XI for a regular starting position and strong club form should see him above Bertand in the England pecking order.
