Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Joe Gomez after he was named man-of-the-match in their 0-0 draw with Brazil on Tuesday evening.
Gomez, 20, was making his first start for the Three Lions, and impressed with his handling of the world’s most expensive player, Neymar, who failed to make a decisive impact for the Selecao.
The Liverpool starlet was named man-of-the-match as England kept a clean sheet against the world’s second-ranked team, with Brazil spending most of the game in attack with 66% possession.
Gareth Southgate’s selection was brave as he persisted with youth, with the England boss assessing all his options as the World Cup approaches next summer.
Gomez has been a regular for Jurgen Klopp this season, making 12 appearances in all competitions as Liverpool’s first-choice right-back.
And his first two performances for England, including his debut against Germany on Saturday, give much cause for optimism, with the youngster showing sound tactical awareness and a calm head during both encounters.
