Aston Villa could have attacker Josh Onomah back for selection against QPR at the weekend, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper claims that the Midlands giants are hopeful the 20-year-old will be able to make his comeback on Saturday at Loftus Road.

It is understood that Steve Bruce’s side are optimistic the playmaker will be back in contention after encouraging signs, but they will not know for certain for another 48 hours.

Onomah missed the club’s last game before the international break as Villa lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

They now travel to QPR at the weekend as domestic football resumes and the attacking midfielder has become a key player in recent weeks.

He is impressing supporters following his season-long loan at the Championship club from Tottenham and is proving he can be a creative threat in the final third.

Onomah withdrew from the England Under-21s squad during the international break and has received medical attention at his club on his groin problems.

OPINION

Onomah has endured spells in and out of the Villa starting XI so far this season, but before the internationals was cementing his position in the team. The rising star operates in the number 10 role behind the striker and has caught the eye with his brilliant technical ability. He is being tipped to become a future first teamer at Spurs and impressing during his loan spell away his helping claim. Villa will hope the youngster can continue his good form away to QPR as they look to consolidate their position in the play-off spots.
