Everton make Nuno approach

|

Everton have made an approach for Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, according to Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague.

The well-connected journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning that the Merseysiders have turned their attention to the Portugese, 43, in their search for a new boss.

Balague reported that Everton have made contact with Nuno and that his agent Jorge Mendes is listening to the Premier League club’s proposal.

Santo joined Wolves in the summer on a three-year contract and has led them to the top of the Championship table with 10 victories from 15 matches.

The Portuguese coach has experience managing Valencia and Porto and as a player he won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho in 2004.

Everton are on the hunt for a new manager after the sacking of Ronald Koeman two weeks ago.

OPINION

A valued member of the Mourinho squad who won Europe’s biggest club prize 13 years ago, Nuno has made an impressive start to a management career that began with a two-year stint at Rio Ave in 2012. He did enough to land the Valencia job and received three manager of the month awards as he guided the Spanish club into the Champions League, before his season at Porto ended when he stepped down in May following their second-place finish behind Benfica. Nuno was cherry-picked for the Wolves job by Mendes and has done what his predecessors could not by taking advantage of the team’s big spending to mount a strong promotion challenge. Has he done enough to land the plum Everton gig? Probably not, but his star is on the rise and he is a manager who is destined for big things.
