Bailey Peacock-Farrell has ended his loan spell at York City to return to Leeds United, it was revealed on Thursday afternoon.

York manager Martin Gray revealed at a media conference, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account, that the goalkeeper, 21, has headed back to Elland Road after the non-league outfit completed the signing of Adam Bartlett.

The 31-year-old stopper, a former Newcastle United trainee, has signed a contract until summer 2019 and will go straight into the Minstermen squad for Saturday’s National North clash at Alfreton Town.

Like Peacock-Farrell, Bartlett had signed on an initial month-long loan deal last month.

Elland Road academy product Peacock-Farrell joined York in order to get regular game time at senior level.

There have been calls from supporters for the 21-year-old to answer Leeds’ keeping crisis due to the form of senior pair Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald.

OPINION

Despite the iffy form of Lonergan and Wiedwald, it makes sense for Peacock-Farrell to have a five-month loan in the second half of the campaign starting in January. This will allow some crucial extensive first-team experience at a high level, as well as the time to gel with a group of teammates and get accustomed to their playing style. Peacock-Farrell is a rising star who signed a three-year contract in the summer and is destined for big things. But he needs to be playing regularly, something that will not happen imminently at Elland Road, where he is behind Wiedwald and Lonergan in the pecking order.
