The next most likely Leeds United signing is MLS striker Cyle Larin, according to Football Whispers.

The Canada international, who plays for Orlando City, has rocketed up the list of expected Leeds arrivals amid speculation that he is a firm January target of the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 3.1 out of 5 that Larin, will join Leeds, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.

The 21-times international is narrowly ahead in the ratings of Bristol City full-back Joe Bryan, who is rated at 3.0 to join Leeds, and Werder Bremen striker Aron Johansson, who is rated at 2.8 to transfer to Elland Road.

Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen is reportedly looking to add to his attacking options at Elland Road in January and funds will be made available to him following the £18million sale of Chris Wood to Burnley.

Larin has scored 12 goals from 28 MLS matches in 2017 and has netted fives times for Canada from 21 appearances.

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds recruited 16 new players this summer in a dizzying overhaul of the senior squad. But the best recruitment chiefs are always one step ahead in a forever changing market and resting on laurels is not an option. As Victor Orta will know better than anyone, loanee Lasogga, who has had a mixed three months, is only on the club’s books for a single season. It pays for the director of football to be one step ahead and have his sights firmly fixed on future options. Larin is an intriguing option and an A-list one, judging by his track record and pedigree. His beefy frame is also ideal for Championship football, where you have to earn the right to play.

Likely to happen?

Given that Leeds have money to spend after the summer sales of Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor for a combined £25million, and Larin is out of contract at the end of 2018, Toronto are vulnerable to a bid. Signing top forwards in January is a mighty difficult task, but Leeds are relatively flush and have an inclination to spend it, especially if they sense that promotion to the Premier League is a realistic option.
