Polish winger Kamil Jozwiak has snubbed Leeds United to sign a new contract with Lech Poznan, it has been confirmed.

The Polish club announced on their official Twitter account on Monday that Jozwiak, 19, had penned an initial two-year contract with the option for two further seasons.

This comes after Poznan spokesman Lukasz Borowicz reported on his personal Twitter account earlier this month that Jozwiak has made it clear through his father and agent that he was keen on a transfer to Elland Road.

“During the meeting, the agent and father reported that they were not interested in the club’s offer and would like to transfer the player to Leeds United.”

It was reported in Poland that Leeds had tabled a bid worth £180,000 plus add-ons for Jozwiak, whose previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season.

But the player has made a U-turn and decided to commit for the coming years to the club where he has scored two goals in seven matches in 2017-18.

“I’m a product of this club and I owe a lot to it,” Jozwiak said. “I know that staying here is the best option for me at the moment.“I am glad I signed the contract and now I can concentrate fully on my game.”

Poznan vice-president Piotr Rutkowski said: “This is very good information. After a great deal of confusion a few weeks ago and broke off talks with a player, Kamil came to us alone and offered an agreement.“We came to him quickly, and in his conversations he and his father participated. From the moment we talked directly with his dad Kamil and myself, we worked out a compromise model.”

OPINION

Leeds’ recruitment team will be disappointed to lose out on Jozwiak after putting a lot of groundwork into the transfer. The teenager represents one for the future rather than someone who would walk straight into the Leeds first team, but the club always have one eye on the future and have been busy since Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover in stockpiling youthful European talent in their Under-23s squad. The young Pole could have signed a pre-contract with United from 1 January onwards, but that will not be happening how, and there are bound to be some long faces among the staff of director of football Victor Orta.
