Leeds United have been given a major boost in their pursuit of Manchester United striker James Wilson, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Whites and Championship rivals Reading are both keen on signing the 21-year-old on loan.

It is understood that suitors are set to come circling for the English centre-forward in January after he fielded a lot of attention in the summer.

Wilson has revealed to MUTV that he is open to leaving Old Trafford in January on loan and Leeds will now hope they can win the race for his signature.

The left-footed attacker is a product of the United academy and injuries have held him back recently from reaching his full potential.

Good move for Leeds?

Wilson looks keen to secure a loan move for the second half of the season and it could be a smart piece of business for Leeds to pick him up.

The youngster has scored four goals in 20 senior appearances for United, but has slipped down the pecking order in the past couple of seasons.

He just needs a fresh move to reignite his career after his spell at Derby last season was cut short due to injury.

However, Wilson scored five goals during a loan spell with Brighton in the 2015/16 campaign and has experience in the Championship.

He could add some extra firepower to Leeds that they will need in the race for promotion and try to push Pierre-Michel Lasogga for a place in the starting XI.

Wilson certainly has great talent and could still become a future Premier League player if he remains clear of injury.

Likely to happen?

Wilson has hinted that he is pushing for a loan move and Leeds appears to be a reasonable destination for him after two previous spells in the Championship.

The Whites will have to compete with league rivals Reading for his signature, who beat them 1-0 at the weekend at Elland Road.

Leeds do already have several attacking options in their squad in the form of Lasogga, Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban, but it would be no surprise to see Christiansen add more strength to his squad as they strive for promotion.
