Alan Brazil has claimed that some Rangers fans would welcome back former shareholder Mike Ashley to Ibrox.

The former Scotland international has taken a swipe at the Gers by stating that they would like to see the return of the 53-year-old, something which will not go down well with fans.

Rangers fans have shown their frustration towards Ashely in the past and even displayed a banner in the Europa League clash against Progres Niedekorn saying ‘Good Riddance Mike Ashley’ at the start of the season.

Ashley had a stake in the Scottish club and sold his entire shares in the most recent summer.

The current Newcastle owner has revealed that he is planning to sell the Premier League side and wants the deal to be done by Christmas.

“Another classic for you…Mike Ashley,” Brazil said on his talkSPORT breakfast show. “Rangers fans couldn’t wait to get him out the door.

“But I know the way things are going at Rangers at the moment they’d have him back tomorrow – the ones who are in the know.”

OPINION

Rangers do need to start delivering on the pitch and the pressure is on manager Pedro Caixinha. They are currently six points adrift of early pace setters Celtic and Aberdeen, but that gap can’t afford to grow much further. The Gers need to at least be finishing second in the league standings to show that they are developing and pushing forwards. There has been a big influx of players in the past couple of transfer windows and fans are desperate for them to return to their former glory.
