Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sell defender Jordan Amavi to Ligue 1 side Marseille on a permanent deal, according to L’Equipe.

The French publication claim that the French side have taken up the option to convert the left-back’s loan into a permanent transfer for £9million.

L’Equipe report that Amavi, 23, is “already 100% a Marseille player” and the signing will become official on Tuesday, 10 October.

Amavi has made a total of six appearances in all competitions this season for the French giants and has got a call-up to the senior France team for the first time to play in their World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Belarus.

He was a mainstay for Villa last season before slipping down the pecking order in the second half of the campaign.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Amavi was allowed to return to France this summer after falling behind January arrival Neil Taylor, who arrived from Premier League Swansea. He failed a medical at Spanish club Sevilla before securing a temporary return to France. It appears that will soon become a permanent one as he prepares to sever all tiers with Villa. Quite how the left-back has failed to make it in the Midlands is something of a mystery, given his pedigree and obvious talent. He should have been one of the key men in Steve Bruce’s Championship-chasing side. Both parties must take responsibility for the fact that he is not.

Likely to happen?

L’Equipe is one of the most reliable sources of transfer information in Europe and has no equal when it comes to reporting about French or France-based players. If the long-standing sports newspaper says the deal is done, then it is.
