West Ham are keen to blow Liverpool out of the water to sign Anderlecht striker Lukasz Teodorczyk, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that the east London club Irons have joined the Merseysiders in the race to land £7million-rated Teodorczyk, 26.

The Mirror report West Ham are preparing a bid for the Poland international and that Belgian outfit Anderlecht are willing to listen to offers even though he only made his move the club permanent in March after a successful loan stint away from Dynamo Kiev.

Teodorczyk was outstanding last season, scoring 30 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions.

Good move for West Ham?

The Hammers are perennially interested in signing strikers. However, most of their deals in the era of the two Davids (Sullivan and Gold) have failed to fire and it is questionable whether Teodorcyzk would do so. Is he a better option than Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll or Diafra Sakho? Certainly, the 14-times Poland international has more to offer than Sakho, but his goals have been scored in middling leagues where the standard is a notch or two below the Premier League. He would represent something of a gamble for West Ham that could come off, or could also fail dismally.

Likely to happen?

West Ham’s interest is in the relatively early stages. They have been keeping close tabs on the forward and a bid is imminent, but Anderlecht have a history of being tough negotiators and securing top dollar for their key men. With reported interested from Torino as well, the Londoners will have to go some way to convincing the Pole that his career would be best served by a transfer to east London.
