Scott Allan could head back to parent club Celtic for his rehabilitation after undergoing groin surgery, according to the Evening Telegraph.

The newspaper claim the Scottish giants are in talks with Dundee about the 25-year-old’s rehab.

Left-sided midfielder Allan posted a photo to his personal Instagram account confirming he had undergone an operation last week and is expected to be out for the rest of the month until November.

Dundee boss Neil McCann admitted his side were waiting on guidance from Celtic over the plan for the player’s recovery.

“Because he’s a loan player we, quite rightly, have to be guided by Celtic and their medical staff,” McCann said, as quoted by the Evening Telegraph website.

“It’s early days and we’re just waiting.”

Allan has been struggling with the groin problem for around a month after it first flared up when he was substituted before half-time against Rangers.

OPINION

Allan has failed to make an impression at Celtic since joining in 2015 and it appears he does not have a long-term future at the club. He spent last season at Rotherham but managed only 11 appearances as they were relegated from the English Championship. However, the move to Dundee has reignited the career of the left-sided flyer and he was a mainstay of the team before succumbing to injury. Allan remains Celtic’s asset and has nearly two years remaining on his contract with the club, but it is hard to see him breaking back into Brendan Rodgers’ side.
