Graeme Souness has hailed Christian Eriksen as a “wizard” ahead of the huge Premier League clash with Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday.

In his column in the Times, Souness states that he was the “only good signing” that Tottenham made with the money that they got from the sale of Gareth Bale in 2013.

“He’s a little craftsman, a delight to watch and a wizard on his day,” said Souness.

“He can thread a ball through the eye of a needle, has an eye for goal, knows how to get on the ball in that position, which can be a crowded area, and has lovely feet.

“At £11m from Ajax, there’s a strong argument that he’s the only good signing Tottenham made with the £86m they received for Gareth Bale four years ago, when you consider the others were Paulinho, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Erik Lamela.”

Eriksen will be expected to line-up against Liverpool in Sunday’s 4pm Premier League clash after a good run of form this season.

He’s scored two goals in his last three Premier League games, including the winner in the 1-0 game against Bournemouth last weekend that finally secured Tottenham’s first win at Wembley.

OPINION

Eriksen is a massive part of the Pochettino revolution at Tottenham. He’s got goals, assists and the ability to rip teams apart with his range of passing. Tottenham got him for an absolute bargain price from Ajax but the other players Spurs bought with the Bale money haven’t fared so well. Spurs lost money on Paulinho, who now plays for Barcelona, Etienne Capoue who’s plying his trade with Watford and Vlad Chiriches. They halved their £27million investment when they sold Roberto Soldado on but did make some back from the sale of Nacer Chadli to West Brom. The only player we’d argue with Souness about is Erik Lamela – he has been a great player for Spurs but has suffered from a long-term injury which he is only now on the cusp of returning from. Tottenham fans will be hoping for a big performance from Eriksen today as Pochettino looks to break his own personal hoodoo with Liverpool. The Argentine has never beaten Liverpool since he took over as manager in 2014.
