Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that Tottenham fringe player Michel Vorm always impresses him in training and feels that his attitude is spot on.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper is currently the understudy to teammate Hugo Lloris and has made just one appearance so far this season.

However, he is in line to play on Wednesday night when Spurs host London rivals West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

Vorm has been the back-up option to Lloris since his move to the North London club in 2014 and only has 33 appearances under his belt.

The Dutch shot stopper proved himself in the Premier League with Swansea before hand and that earned him a move to Spurs.

Manager Pochettino has explained that he is always impressed by the work of Vorm in training and always finds it hard leaving him out of the side.

“When the player doesn’t complain, trains hard and shows great quality, it creates more problems for me than those who complain and aren’t doing their job,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Football London.

“With players like Michel Vorm, it’s difficult to say ‘we are playing you and not playing you’. He complains with his performances in the training sessions.

“That’s the way to complain – to show me he deserves to play. That is the way to complain to the manager, not knock on the door.”

OPINION

Vorm is set to come into the Spurs XI against West Ham and he must be one of the best understudy goalkeepers in the Premier League. The shot stopper is always reliable when he comes in as cover and should be able to keep out the Hammers attack on Wednesday night. He earned rave reviews during his time with former club Swansea, where he was a demanding goalkeeper that was comfortable in possession. He has decided to stick with being a second-choice option at Spurs and at 34 could still have a few years ahead of him. Spurs’ involvement across several competitions should give him more game-time this season and it would be good to see his patience pay off.
