Gary Neville doesn’t feel that Tottenham are going to win the Premier League this season, but has admitted he would like to see them lift the crown because of their brand of football.

Spurs have gone somewhat under the radar at the beginning of the campaign, but are set to be in the race for the top-flight title once again.

The North London club have missed out to Chelsea and Leicester in the past two seasons, but have been the most consistent side in England over the previous two years.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently joint-second with Manchester United in the league table after the opening nine games, with leaders Manchester City currently holding a five-point cushion above them.

Neville has delivered the emphatic verdict that Spurs will just miss out on the league title once again despite having a solid platform.

“I don’t think they can [win the league],” he said on the Gary Neville podcast.

“I hope they win the league because they play well enough to do that, but I think in the end it will be too much for them.”

OPINION

Pochettino’s side have picked up valuable title experience in recent years and that could prove crucial as his talented young squad go in search of silverware. Spurs should be considered huge title contenders given the perfect balance of their team and anyone with prolific goalscorer Harry Kane in should be feared. They are in such a good place to challenge for the title this season with their star players at their peak and the recent 4-1 win over Liverpool also showed they are getting to grips with their temporary home Wembley. However, Man City are the favourites for the domestic crown and it’s going to take some doing to stop Pep Guardiola’s free-scoring team over the course of the season.
