Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Harry Kane could miss Tottenham’s Premier League showdown against Manchester United on Saturday.

The in-form striker was substituted during Spurs’ 4-1 win over Liverpool last weekend after leaving the field clutching his hamstring.

He did not make the Tottenham match-day squad for their 3-2 League Cup defeat to West Ham on Wednesday even though manager Pochettino fielded a near full-strength side.

The Argentine has revealed that Kane’s participation in the Saturday lunchtime clash at Old Trafford is in serious doubt.

When asked whether Kane’s injury made him a doubt for the match, Pochettino said, as quoted by the Times: “We’ll see, we need to assess the team. We were forced to rotate [against West Ham] for different reasons.”

OPINION

Of all the players Pochettino will want to name in his starting XI at Old Trafford, none is more crucial than the brilliant Kane, the goal-a-game striker whose appetite for banging the ball in the back of the net is matched by his ability to thrive on the biggest occasions. In Premier League terms, few come more momentous than a trip to Manchester to face fellow title challengers who have mounted a strong title challenge this season, notwithstanding last weekend’s shock defeat to Huddersfield. Kane scored twice against Liverpool last weekend to lift his haul for the season to 13 from 12 matches, which make him the top scorer in the English top flight. It will be a massive blow to Spurs’ hopes of taking all three points if Kane misses out.
