England fans took to Twitter to destroy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his performance in England’s World Cup qualifier win against Slovenia last night (Thursday).
Oxlade-Chamberlain was given the nod to start for England in midfield, which was at odds with his lack of playing time and poor form for Liverpool.
The former Arsenal player was unable to repay manager Gareth Southgate and it was no surprise when he was replaced by Jesse Lingard after 64 minutes.
A last-gasp Harry Kane goal saved England’s blushes following a laboured display as they qualified for next summer’s World Cup with a match to spare.
But the microscope was thrust on the performances of the players who looked so average at Wembley against the resolute visitors, none more so than Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Southgate clearly has great belief in the midfielder, also starting him in the recent qualifiers in Malta and at home to Slovakia, but his struggles have been reflected in his failure to complete both of those games, as well as this meeting with Slovenia.
England fans took to social media to deliver their verdicts on Oxlade-Chamberlain and were merciless.
