Tottenham fans took to Twitter to mock Kyle Walker for his performance for England in their 1-0 win against Slovenia last night (Thursday).
The right-back, who quit Spurs for Manchester City during the summer, was named in the starting XI for Gareth Southgate’s side and played the full 90 minutes as a late Harry Kane goal ensured the hosts qualified for the World Cup in Russia with a match to spare.
But England struggled to break down the visitors in what proved to be a poor performance, with criticism aimed at Walker for many felt was a careless display.
However, the former Tottenham man played a crucial role in England’s last-gasp winner, delivering a low cross for Kane to poke home from a couple of yards out.
Walker made 229 appearances for Spurs during his eight years at the club and was widely regarded as a key member of the team that secured consecutive second and third place finishes.
Tottenham fans took to social media en masse to deliver their verdicts on the full-back and many questioned how the club managed to squeeze £50million out of City for him.
