Tottenham may look to hijack a deal for midfield powerhouse Geoffrey Kondogbia next summer, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian outlet claim that Spurs are interested in the 24-year-old and could swoop for him at the end of the season.

Kondogbia is currently on a season-long loan at Sevilla from Inter Milan and the Spanish club have the option to make the deal permanent for £22million at the end of the campaign.

It is understood that Spurs are waiting in the wings and would be willing to pounce if a move to Sevilla falls through.

The report details that Premier League rivals are in a similar position to Mauricio Pochettino’s side and are keen on the central midfielder.

Good move for Spurs?

Kondogbia is looking to rebuild his career on loan at Sevilla after a disappointing spell and is already reaping the rewards with better performances.

The defensive midfielder can be a colossus in the middle of the park when on song and will hope to return to the form that helped him earn five international caps for France in 2015.

He has the profile of someone that could suit Spurs and looks to have the physicality to match the Premier League.

However, the North London club do already have Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko competing for a central midfield position.

Kondogbia is a decent player, but based on his form over the past 12 months is not someone that would actually improve on Spurs’ current options in midfield.

Likely to happen?

This deal is a long way off from happening as Spurs are merely waiting in the wings alongside Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Sevilla will have the first chance to land Kondogbia at the end of the season if they activate a £22million clause in his loan deal and the early signs are that it is likely to happen.

Kondogbia may well end up in the Premier League at some point and the Frenchman has all the traits to match English football, but for now it seems unlikely would land his signature.
