Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis has rejected the club’s initial offer of a new contract, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football news site has claimed that Davis has turned down Villa’s opening offer as they aim to secure him to a long-term deal following the impressive start to his senior career.

Football Insider report that the Midlands giants are keen to tie the forward, 19, down before the January transfer window amid growing interest from Premier League big guns Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton.

Good move for Villa?

Villa must do all they can to fend off interest in their rising star. His education and development will be far better served as a regular under Steve Bruce than stuck in the Under-23s at Manchester United, or on the benches of Arsenal and Everton. Davis has scored twice in his last four matches and is proving to be a handful against Championship defences. It is a sign of how highly Bruce rates the teenager that he has been paired with Jonathan Kodjia in a two-pronged attack since the senior man’s return from injury. There is a real excitement growing around Davis, and Villa need to ensure he stays put.

Likely to happen?

Davis is beginning to make a name for himself in England’s second tier, and Premier League scouts are likely to be regular features at Villa Park in the coming months. But Villa are no minnows. They pay higher wages than all other Championship sides and have the resources to fend off interest in Davis in the January window. The opening contract offer might have been rejected but that will not put Villa off from trying to nail down one of the most exciting youngsters outside of the top flight. It is imperative they do no lose the young gun to a Premier League predator.
