Liverpool fans took to Twitter to destroy goalkeeper Loris Karius for his performance in their 1-1 Champions League draw against Spartak Moscow.

The German was given the nod to start in goal for only the third time this season, but, significantly, the second time in Europe’s elite competition as Jurgen Klopp continued to rotate his keepers between the main competitions.

Karius had looked jittery in his run-outs against Arsenal and Sevilla and it was a similar situation against Russian champions Spartak.

Fernando put the home side ahead with a free-kick after 23 minutes – Philippe Coutinho soon equalised with a brilliantly-taken strike – but fingers were pointed at the Liverpool shot-stopper for failing to keep out an effort that was well hit but fairly central.

Reds supporters took to social media en masse to complain at what they felt was yet another preventable error from Karius, who has made many of them since his summer 2016 transfer from Mainz.
