The early signs were not good for Tottenham academy product Walkes in the States. He could not get into the team and also struggled with a calf injury. But he has taken advantage of the opportunity give to him in June to nail down a regular starting spot for the new MLS franchise. Playing in front of huge crowds every other week, the youngster has earned rave reviews in a new right-back role. It is a far cry from playing in front of a few hundred spectators in Premier League 2 for the Spurs youth team, where he was used either at centre-back or in a midfield enforcer role. The new deal may simply be a device to increase his selling price but Tottenham are sure to make a few bob if they do sell him. Walkes is proving that he can make it in senior football.
