This starting XI will get Everton season back on track v Sunderland

Ronald Koeman needs to pick a strong starting XI to play Sunderland in the League Cup at Goodison Park.

Playing a second string team just isn’t an option at the moment, with Everton misfiring in the Premier and Europa League.

Everton are currently in 18th spot in the league after just one win and one draw – and they’ve only scored two goals, both from Wayne Rooney in the opening games against Stoke and Man City.

That’s the big issue at the moment and Koeman needs to give his other attackers a chance to start scoring.

Sunderland are sitting towards the bottom of the Championship and they’ve conceded 12 goals already this season.

That makes this the perfect match to start building confidence back up that Koeman’s men can take into the Premier League.

It’s also the perfect game to reintroduce striker Oumar Niasse, who last played for Everton in December 2016.

He’s been banging in goals for the Under-23s and Koeman admitted there was a way back to the first-team for him recently.

That should be tonight and a goal from him and one from Gylfi Sigurdsson would be just the tonic that Everton and its beleaguered fans need at the moment.

This is the starting XI that we think would tear Sunderland to shreds at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
