Celtic travel to Belgian side Anderlecht on Wednesday night for a crucial Champions League group game and Michael Owen has backed them to get at least a draw.

The Bhoys turn their attention to their European campaign after winning away at Old Firm rivals 2-0 at the weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are continuing their domestic dominance and are now hoping they can make an impact in Europe.

The Scottish giants were humbled 5-0 at home to Paris Saint-Germain in their opening group game, while they still have Bayern Munich to face in their group.

However, Celtic are realistically going to be fighting over third in the group and trying to qualify for the Europa League.

Owen has tipped them to get a positive result in Belgium and get their European campaign up and running.

“Realistically, with both Bayern Munich and PSG in the group, these two sides are likely to be playing for Europa League football in the New Year and it’s interesting to see BetVictor make the Belgium side odds-on to come out on top on Wednesday,” Owen wrote in his column for BetVictor.

“I thought Brendan Rodgers’ side showed great character in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Rangers in the Old Firm derby and expect them to leave Anderlecht with a point at the very least.”

OPINION

Celtic essentially will need to win their double header with Anderlecht in the group to qualify for the Europa League and a point away on Wednesday would be a great result. Rodgers’ side are much improved on the team that were eliminated in the Champions League group stages last season and should go into the midweek clash with confidence. However, they must be weary of a strong Belgian side who have good experience in European competitions. They finished third in their Champions League group last season and went all the way to the Europa League quarter-finals.
