Everton manager Ronald Koeman has come under immense pressure from fans after a poor start to the season and Robbie Savage has condemned any supporters that want him to be sacked.

The Toffees were expected to enjoy a strong campaign after a busy summer of spending, but have started in poor fashion.

They have just four points from their opening five league games and currently sit in the relegation places.

The Merseyside club were going to be competing for the Champions League spots after welcoming the likes of Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jordan Pickford to Goodison Park.

However, poor results on the field has meant the manager has received a lot of frustration from fans.

Pundit Savage has claimed that Everton fans must get behind their under-fire manager and that he remains the best man for the job.

“Any Everton fans calling for Ronald Koeman’s head after a bad week are talking absolute garbage,” Savage wrote in the Mirror. “Yes, Everton is a massive football club with a huge fanbase and a proud history, but that’s what it is – history.

“Koeman isn’t going to end 22 years of drought overnight. He isn’t going to close the gap on the clubs who finished above Everton last season in a single transfer window. Everton’s best bet is to stick with him – because they won’t be any closer to the top four if they change course now.”

OPINION

Everton are going through a difficult spell right now and their European embarrassment away to Atalanta will not have helped, but they should be able to turn their corner. They have the perfect opportunity to ease doubts when they host Bournemouth at the weekend and could do with a big performance. Koeman certainly does deserve more time at Goodison Park and has shown some real positive signs, but the gap right now to the big sides may be too big to close down.
