Thomas Christiansen has provided a massive boost to Leeds with the news that the injury to Pontus Jansson is “nothing important”.

The Leeds talismanic centre-back suffered a suspected hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat to Millwall on Saturday, and fans were fearing the worst.

However, talking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the EFL Cup game with Burnley, Christiansen has played down the injury and hinted that he might even be fit for the clash with the Premier League side.

Asked if the Burnley game might come too soon for Jansson, Christiansen said, “The physios and the doctors will come out with some news but it’s not serious.”

He added later that Jansson wouldn’t play in the Burnley game, but would train instead.

Christiansen also said that the Burnley game was a great chance to bounce back from the Millwall defeat.

“After one games comes another and we have the possibility to face a very good team in the Cup just a few games after our defeat at the weekend,” Christiansen said.

“I have had the possibility to find solutions. I have spoken to some of the players about some of the areas that we could improve.

“Now that we are in this situation [at the top of the table], we have to stay there, we have to work very hard to stay in that position.”

OPINION

This is just the news that the Leeds fans were hoping for. Pontus Jansson is an absolute rock for Leeds and a long period on the sidelines could have been disastrous, even with Matthew Pennington on the verge of being fit again. If it really is nothing serious, and Jansson is back for the game against Ipswich on Saturday, it would be huge for Leeds. It certainly sounds like he won’t be out for much more than the Burnley game and that’s surely better than even the most optimistic Leeds fan could have hoped for.”
