Andrea Radrizzani has sent a triumphant message to Leeds fans after their 2-0 win in the Championship against Birmingham, hailing the new “team spirit”.

The win sent Leeds to the top of the Championship after seven games, with five wins and two draws.

After the game, Leeds owner Radrizzani took to Twitter to hail the “team spirit” and work ethic in his team.

He followed that up with a post on Instagram, where he posted a picture of the Leeds players celebrating, adding, “We are Leeds United”.

Leeds play Millwall next away in the Championship on Saturday and manager Thomas Christiansen will be hoping to keep the momentum going.

Millwall are languishing towards the bottom of the table, in 19th position, with just one win from seven games.

OPINION

These are heady times for Leeds United. When the team narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season and then Garry Monk left, fans would have been fearing the worst. However, chairman Radrizzani and new manager Thomas Christiansen have propelled the clubs to new heights. They’re deservedly top of the table after playing some tough teams in their opening seven games. Even more impressive is their defensive record, with just two goals conceded in the seven games – both in the opening 3-2 win against Bolton. Leeds have also scored 14 goals across the seven games, an average of two goals a game, despite two 0-0 draws. After last season, when Chris Wood supplied the vast majority of goals for Leeds, they’ve been spread about in the league this season – Kalvin Phillips is their top scorer with three, with new signings Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Samu Saiz both on two. Who would have thought that Monk and Wood leaving would be the best thing to happen to Leeds in years? Their ambitions should now be upgraded from play-offs to an automatic promotion spot.
