OPINION

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing striker Timo Werner from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

The Telegraph claim that Spurs are keen on the 21-year-old as they look for further cover to support Harry Kane.

It is understood that the north London club missed out on signing the Germany international back in 2015 as he decided to join Leipzig from Stuttgart.

Werner established himself as a prolific goalscorer last season in Germany, scoring 21 times in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs need another striker before the window closes as Kane and Vincent Janssen are not enough to see them compete in both domestic and European competitions.

Werner would definitely add some extra firepower to the frontline, but would more than likely play second fiddle to Kane.

The German is an upcoming talent that has the physical presence to lead in the line in the Premier League and has also shown glimpses of his quality on the international stages, scoring three times during his six German caps.

The north London club would be making a real statement if they managed to land this prolific young goalscorer.

Likely to happen???

Werner is one of the most highly-rated young strikers in Europe and it is going to take a huge fee to sign him.

Leipzig have already stood firm over Naby Keita this summer and managed to hold off Liverpool’s interest, with the club looking to establish themselves at the top-end of the German league.

Spurs have shown they are not willing to pay huge transfer sums for players and that makes the Werner ranger very unlikely, despite the fact that the youngsters would fit the club well.
