Newcastle should try and attempt a late move to sign Stoke playmaker Bojan, who is reportedly on the verge of a loan to Spain.

The Sun claim that the 27-year-old is set to link up with La Liga outfit Alaves and that they have beat off competition from Malaga.

It is understood that Stoke boss Mark Hughes decided late in the transfer window that the Spaniard could leave on loan and there could be a permanent deal at the end of it.

However, Newcastle should plot an eleventh-hour hikack for Bojan and try to bring the attacking midfielder to St James’ Park.

The ex-Barcelona man has slipped down the pecking order at Stoke, but there is no doubting he is a fantastic technical player and needs a fresh move to reignite his career.

He has struggled with injury during his time in the Premier League, but that appears to be behind him and Newcastle could be the perfect platform for him to shine under Rafael Benitez.

Newcastle are going to need goals from all areas of the pitch to avoid relegation and Bojan can be a strong source of goals behind the striker.

The Spaniard has scored 15 goals in 62 appearances for Stoke and at one point was a firm fan favourite at the bet365 Stadium.

He also racked up 164 appearances for Spanish giants Barcelona, where he won three La Liga title and two Champions Leagues.

He managed 41 goals and 17 assists for Barcelona and there is no reason that he can’t recapture his best form if he is given a consistent run of games.
