OPINION

Leeds are reportedly interested in signing Oxford ace Marvin Johnson.

Football Insider claim that the Whites and Championship rivals Hull are lining up moves to sign the League One sensation.

It is understood that Oxford value the 26-year-old at £2million and that he has been identified as a target by manager Thomas Christiansen.

Johnson is a versatile player that is most recognised as a left winger, but has been transformed into a left-back in the past 12 months at Oxford.

The Englishman made 61 appearances during the 2016/17 campaign during spells with first Motherwell and then Oxford, where he showed his attacking talents by scoring 10 goals and supplying 15 assists.

Good move for Leeds?

Johnson is clearly a very talented individual and looks ready to make the step up from League One.

His versatility makes him an attractive signing for most clubs and he would be able to boost competition on the left flank at Leeds.

He proved to be a great goal threat even when playing at full-back and one area that the Whites need to strengthen is goals from all over the park.

The only question mark is whether he could make the step up to the Championship, but he has previously proved himself in the Scottish Premiership.

Likely to happen?

Leeds will have to beat off major competition from Hull if they want to sign Johnson, who are looking for a replacement to fill the void left by Andrew Robertson.

The Whites are likely to be prioritising a new centre-back for their squad and that should push a potential move for Johnson down the pecking order.

They have recently signed Cameron Borthwick-Jackson as a left-back option and summer addition Ezgjan Alioski has also made a superb start to his Elland Road career on the left wing.
