OPINION

Celtic have reportedly received an offer from Championship outfit Cardiff for attacker Jonny Hayes and are weighing up his future.

Teamtalk claim that Cardiff have contacted the Bhoys about taking the 30-year-old winger on loan after missing out on him in the past.

It is understood that the early pacesetters of the Championship have enquired about a loan move and Celtic are considering it despite only signing Hayes this summer.

Hayes moved to Parkhead for £1million in June from Aberdeen, but has endurded a poor start to his Celtic career and is without a goal in his opening eight games.

The Republic of Ireland international has yet to cement a spot in the staring XI and the signing of Patrick Roberts from Manchester City could see him slip even further down the pecking order.

Good move for Celtic?

Hayes may have made a poor start to life at Celtic, but he has completed 90 minutes just once so far and its too early to let him go.

They will need him in their squad throughout the course of the season if they are to replicate last season’s domestic treble and the wide man can play a big part.

Hayes may have made a poor start and may struggle to compete alongside James Forrest, Scott Sinclair and Roberts, but Celtic are in for a long season.

Fans should not forget that last season he did managed 11 goals and 24 assists for Aberdeen, so allowing him to leave on loan to Cardiff would be a very rash and strange decision.

Likely to happen?

It seems unlikely that Brendan Rodgers would allow Hayes to leave so early into his Celtic career after only signing him this summer to help improve his squad.

Cardiff have won all five of their fixtures so far in the Championship and would be an attractive option for the player if there are most first-team opportunities, but the Bhoys do have Champions League football.

Hayes may not be in the starting XI right now, but his form is sure to pick up and Rodgers will realise he needs a strong squad.
