Leeds target Jordan Hugill has handed in a transfer request, according to Football Insider.

They reported that the Preston North End striker has requested a move before the end of the summer transfer window.

This follows a report from Football Insider that claimed Leeds were targeting the striker, along with fellow Championship club Reading.

It was also reported that Birmingham have had two bids rejected and that Sunderland are also interested.

In another development that could potentially clear the way for Leeds to make a run at Hugill, Sky Sports also reported that Fulham forward Sone Aluko was due for a medical at Reading on Tuesday.

They reported on their Transfer Centre blog (11.21m) that the clubs have agreed a deal worth up to £7.5million for the versatile attacker.

Good move for Leeds?

The best thing you can say about Hugill is that he is one of the most wanted strikers by Championship clubs in the run up to the end of the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old moved to Preston North End from Port Vale in 2014, before heading on loan to Tranmere and Hartlepool.

He’s made 91 appearances at PNE with a record of 23 goals and five assists.

Leeds have made some great signings this summer and are also linked with a move for Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga who was reported to have come in for talks on Monday.

He would be the best option – if Leeds can afford him – but Hugill would be a fine back-up.

Likely to happen?

Hugill is a target for a number of Championship clubs.

Leeds, Reading, Birmingham and Sunderland are all keen and the player has put in a transfer request.

That means he’s likely to go to one of the four clubs mentioned.

Leeds are definitely in the market for a new striker and have the funds available to make a decisive move.

Reading were also linked in the previous report but they’re reportedly on the verge of signing Aluko from Fulham.

Birmingham had bids turned down and their trail has gone cold since.

That would seem to leave Leeds and Sunderland in the reckoning, with Leeds also looking at Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

If the move for the Bundlesliga player falls throgh we can see Hugill making the move to Elland Road.
