OPINION

Burnley are reportedly set to fork out an extra £8million in their pursuit of Leeds forward Chris Wood.

The Mail claim that the Premier League side are poised to submit a £20million offer for the New Zealand international.

It is understood that the Whites have already knocked back a £12million bid last week and stressed that the striker is not for sale.

However, the report details that they have lined up attackers Pierre-Michel Lasogga from Hamburg and Ross McCormack

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds must turn down all bids for Wood if they want to achieve promotion this season as without goals it well be extremely difficult.

All promoted sides need a prolific goalscorer at the top end of the pitch and Thomas Christiansen currently has one in his side.

Wood has proven himself in the Championship and can be the man to lead a promotion charge at Elland Road in the new campaign.

He managed 30 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions last season and the Yorkshire giants know they have a seriously good player on their hands.

Leeds would be sending out completely the wrong message by allowing their star player to leave in the closing weeks of the window and must keep Wood at all costs.

Likely to happen?

Leeds appear to be standing firm on their stance over Wood and as it stands he seems likely to be at Elland Road for another season.

The striker’s blistering form in the past 12 months has caught the eye of top-flight clubs and Burnley do pose a real threat.

The Clarets do have an £18.5million windfall from their sale of Andre Gray this summer and need a new prolific forward at Turf Moor.

Leeds fans will be worried about whether their club can turn down as much as £20million for one player, but they are likely to stay resilient on keeping Wood.
