OPINION

Thomas Christiansen has decided to give Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips a two-year extension on his current contract which was originally due to expire in 2019.

Leeds confirmed on their official website that the Yorkshire giants academy product had put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at Elland Road, which will see him remain with the Whites until the summer of 2021.

Phillips broke into the Leeds side on a regular basis under former manager Garry Monk last season, making 40 appearances in all competitions as the former Champions League side narrowly missed out on the play-offs.

Known for his box-to-box style of play, the midfielder’s intricate array of passing and vision was always a valued asset in the middle of the park, as well as his ability from dead-ball situations.

This Is FutbolĀ believes Christiansen must not stop there in handing out new contracts this summer and considers three players that have just 12 months remaining on their current contract that deserve a new deal:
