Rangers will allow highly rated young defender David Bates to leave on deadline day, according to a reliable journalist.

Sun correspondent Alan Nixon has revealed on his personal Twitter account that the Gers are willing to sanction the temporary exit of the 20-year-old enforcer.

Nixon reports that Rangers will loan out their centre-back and that it would be a cheap deal.

The Scottish centre-back got introduced into the first team at the back-end of last season and made eight appearances.

He has featured twice so far in the new campaign during their Europa League qualifying defeats, but is yet to be involved in the match day squad for the league.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. Bates is behind Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso and Danny Wilson in the Ranger centre-back pecking order and is unlikely to get a look-in this season, barring a series of injury calamities. It makes sense for all parties for the rising star to continue his development with a loan spell. The defender made a strong impact in the first team at the end of last season and showed great promise, but he could come back a much better player if he is loaned out. Bates has the calibre to perform at most sides in the Scottish top flight and that would be an ideal move for him.

Likely to happen?

Given the relative cheapness of the deal for the buying club, it is likely to happen if Bates and Rangers really want it. However, he has not yet been linked with another team, which suggests a transfer is yet to get off the ground, unless it is being kept top-secret.
