Bitton, 25, came on midway through the first half in place of defender Erik Sviatchenko who suffered a knee injury after landing awkwardly.

Despite playing in a different position, the Israel international starred at the heart of Celtic’s defence as the 48-time Scottish champions progressed into the group stages.

Bitton endured a different second half to last season after plummeting down the pecking order but could now reignite his career in defence with Dedryck Boyata and Sviatchenko out injured.
