Graham Roberts has claimed that Tottenham are “very lucky” to have manager Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Sunday’s clash against Burnley.

Spurs have gone from strength to strength since the Argentinian manager took over the north London club in the summer of 2014, launching a title challenge last season and in 2015-16.

Posting on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon, Spurs icon Roberts lauded the job done by former Southampton manager Pochettino, describing him as a “class act”.

Spurs are yet to win a trophy under Pochettino, their last trophy coming in 2007-08 as Ledley King held aloft the League Cup after dispatching Chelsea 2-1 in the final.

But fans are confident that the 2017-18 campaign could be Spurs season to end their trophy doubt under the guidance of Pochettino, as they prepare to compete on four fronts after qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League.

Roberts will be hoping his former side can get back to winning ways and improve their dismal Wembley record by beating Burnley at the home of English football, after losing to Chelsea last time out thanks to a late Marcos Alonso goal.

OPINION

The 45-year-old has four years remaining on his contract at Tottenham, and must be kept in the hotseat at Spurs until then, if not longer to give the north London outfit consistency and the best chance of achieving Premier League glory. Impressive in the media and in the spotlight with fans watching on, Pochettino’s work in the public eye is second to none but pressure is beginning to mount on the pitch. Spurs must add a trophy to their exploits this season if they are to continue their progression into becoming one of the biggest footballing institutions in European football. Holding aloft the FA Cup or League Cup, reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League and battling for the Premier League trophy will be a successful season.
