OPINION

Newcastle would bolster their options on the right side of defence with the signing of Bacary Sagna, 34, ahead of their Premier League opener against Tottenham on August 13.

The former Manchester City defender is currently on the lookout for a new club after his contract expired at the Etihad, with Pep Guardiola instead bringing in Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy at full-back.

It has seen Gael Clichy join Turkish outfit Istanbul Basaksehir, while Aleksander Kolarov has completed a move to sign for Italian giants Roma, joining another former Man City star in Edin Dzeko.

The Toon have already completed five new signings this summer in Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino, Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu but they are expected to continue their summer recruitment.
