West Ham have sold forward Ashley Fletcher to Middlesbrough and it is a decision that could come back to haunt them in the future.

The Hammers confirmed on Friday that they have sold the 21-year-old to the Championship club in a deal worth £6.5million.

He will now hope to impress in the Championship after an average year under Slaven Bilic last season.

The Englishman made 20 appearances across all competitions and managed just one goal in return.

Fletcher has ended his brief one-year stay with the London Stadium after joining for free last summer when his contract at Manchester United expired.

Many West Ham fans are delighted by the profit made on the youngster considering his lack of game time, but he could now go on to prove them wrong at Boro.

This Is Futbol has picked out three reasons why the Hammers could be making a big mistake in selling Fletcher.

Here are those three points, including why it now leaves Bilic with work to do in the transfer market.
