Tottenham youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers is facing a huge weekend when his side face Manchester City in a friendly.

The 19-year-old has endured a miserable pre-season so far and been unable to impress against either Paris Saint-Germain or Roma, with mistakes raising the question whether he can cut it at senior level.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side now face Manchester City on Saturday in the International Champions Cup and it could be last chance saloon for Carter-Vickers.

The centre-back is a highly-rated talent at Spurs and has been tipped to make a breakthrough into the first team.

However, he has struggled so far this summer and the chances of him making the step up seem unlikely unless he can show considerable improvements.

The USA Under-20 international is hoping to provide cover for the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Kevin Wimmer.

There is definitely an opening for another centre-back slot going into the new season and Carter-Vickers will hope he gets the opportunity to put a marker down against Man City.

Carter-Vickers made just four senior appearances for Spurs last season and is still waiting to make his Premier League bow.

Pochettino should consider loaning out the emerging talent if he does not plan to use him at senior level and find a replacement in the transfer market.

The north London club are showing a real willingness to stand by their youth talents, but if they are not currently good enough then they have no chance to progress on the pitch.
