Toumani Diagouraga has been omitted from Leeds United’s squad for their pre-season tour of Austria, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay reported on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that the midfielder, 29, will not be in the party that jets out on Friday for the three-match tour.

Hay also claimed that manager Thomas Christiansen has also taken another major decision by informing striker Lee Irwin that he is free to find another club.

This comes after TEAMtalk reported that the 23-year-old can quit on a free transfer with a year remaining on his contract amid interest from League One clubs Charlton Athletic, MK Dons, Oldham Athletic, Plymouth and Walsall.

It appears that Diagouraga is also heading for the exit door as Christiansen said in the wake of the club’s pre-season win against North Ferriby on Wednesday night that players carrying niggles would still be on the plane to Austria.

The 30-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town after being frozen out of the first team set-up under former manager Garry Monk in the opening half of the campaign.

Christiansen also appears to have deemed the defensive midfielder as surplus to requirements as the possibility grows that he will switch clubs during the current transfer window.

Diagouraga has a year remaining on the Leeds contract that he signed when joining from Brentford in January 2016.
