Bilic: West Ham close to transfer breakthrough

|

Slaven Bilic has confirmed that West Ham are “pretty close” to sealing their second signing of the summer transfer window.

The Irons have been one of the least active Premier League teams in terms of announcing incoming players, with Pablo Zabaleta being Bilic’s only new recruit since last season ended.

The Argentinean right-back arrived at the London Stadium on a free transfer after being released by Manchester City and fans have since started to show their displeasure about the lack of incoming faces.

However Bilic has delivered an encouraging update, which will no doubt get the supporters excited.

“We are pretty close, but I prefer not to talk transfers, I prefer to work transfers,” said the Croatian manager, as quoted by Sky Sports on their live transfer blog on Friday [12:30pm]. “Make no mistake, we are working hard every day, but it is not easy.

“Some clubs, like Everton, are signing a lot of players, some are signing a couple of players, and some haven’t signed any.

“But that doesn’t mean they are not trying. I’m sure everybody is working, and everybody is trying to sign players.

“What we want is to bring in the quality that is going to improve our first XI. We have Pablo Zabaleta and I am really expecting to add a couple more soon.”

Bilic has offered no indication as to who the incoming players might be, but Sky Sports has recently reported that Man City goalkeeper Joe Hart is on the cusp of securing a season-long loan move to West Ham.

The Express and Star has also reported that West Brom striker Salomon Rondon is a target of the Hammers, who are notably short of options in the attacking area following Enner Valencia’s confirmed move to Tigres UANL in Mexico.

Tottenham are the only Premier League team not to make any signings this summer.
