Newcastle are keen on Swansea attacker Jefferson Montero who is allowed to leave the club this summer, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun transfer correspondent has reported on his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning that the Magpies  are eyeing a move for the 27-year-old, while also stating “he can go.”

Montero joined Swansea back in 2014 from Mexico-based club Morelia in an undisclosed deal.

He has since featured 72 times for the Welsh team, scoring twice while turning provider on 11 occasions.

The left-winger also still has three years remaining on his contract with the Swans, but after playing just 14 times in all competitions for Paul Clement’s team last season he may now be seeking a move himself.

Newcastle have already added right-winger Christian Atsu to their team on a permanent basis alongside centre-back Florian Lejeune.

However, with Yoan Gouffran’s future at the club still in doubt alongside a lack of left sided attackers in Rafa Benitez’ squad, he may now be seeking a move for Montero, who has been capped 63 times by Ecuador at senior level.

The Spanish boss has reportedly grown frustrated over the club’s lack of transfer business so far this summer, but given Montero’s availability he could be a realistic addition alongside giving the team some much needed Premier League experience.
