Newcastle have joined Stoke in the hunt for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, according to the Daily Mail.

The news outlet reports that the 27-year-old central player is of interest to the Premier League duo with the Potters said to be looking at either a loan or permanent transfer.

It is also said that City have placed a £12million price-tag and it would show how ambitious owner Mike Ashley is willing to be this summer.

Delph himself is also expected to leave Pep Guardiola’s team this summer after playing just seven matches in the Premier League last season in an injury hit campaign.

His mobility in midfield is what is said to have attracted Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez to him and before joining City Delph was one of the stars of the Aston Villa team in the Premier League.

The Bradford-born player joined City two years a go for a fee of £8million while also making his England international debut back in 2014.

He has since been capped nine times in total for the senior Three Lions team and with the World Cup coming up next summer he may now be seeking greater first team opportunities.

Newcastle, meanwhile have had an underwhelming summer so far and manager Benitez is said to have been frustrated by the club’s business which has seen just Christian Atsu and Florian Lejeune join so far.
