New Rangers summer signing Graham Dorrans believes the squad is good enough to challenge fierce rivals Celtic for the Premiership title next season.

There was a clear difference between the two Glasgow rivals in the last campaign with 39 points separating the two as the Hoops went the entire league season unbeaten.

The Ibrox club have since overhauled their squad under manager Pedro Caixinha and Dorrans is one of nine players to make the move to the Light Blues this summer.

Now, despite a humiliating knockout in the Europa League following a 2-1 aggregate defeat against Luxembourg-based club Progres Niederkorn Dorrans has told that his side are good enough to compete with Celtic once more.

“Of course it would have been good to be involved in Europe,” told Dorrans, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“But it had no affect on me coming here at all. I was just desperate to be part of the club I’ve supported all my life.

“And competing for the title is the most important thing for Rangers anyway. It won’t be easy because Celtic are a strong team.

“But I believe our squad are strong enough to challenge.

“Rangers should always be looking to compete for trophies. That was the case when I grew up watching them and hopefully we can do that again.”

Dorrans is one of the more high profile players to have made the move to Rangers this summer with Bruno Aves and Ryan Jack also known in Scotland and elsewhere.

However, a number of other of Caixinha’s additions aren’t too well known and the Europa League defeat has brought some cause for concern to the Ibrox fan base.

But, while supporters may not necessarily be expecting Rangers to challenge Celtic for the title again next season, they will certainly be hoping for vast improvements after the last campaign.
