Newcastle are continuing their pursuit of Liverpool wide forward Sheyi Ojo this summer, according to the Chronicle.

The north east news outlet claims that the Magpies have not given up on the 20-year-old left-winger with Rafa Benitez keen to add some new wide players to his squad.

It does however follow claims from Sky journalist Keith Downie on Tuesday reporting that north east rivals Middlesbrough are favourites to sign the England Under-20 international with Liverpool said to be favouring a loan to a Championship club.

However, Benitez, who worked at Anfield as manager for six years between 2004 and 2010 could look for a favour from one of his former clubs.

Additionally, if he can offer Ojo the chance of playing regularly in the Premier League then Liverpool may see that as more beneficial than another loan move to England’s second tier.

The young attacker is highly rated on Merseyside, but last season his development stalled with just two FA Cup appearances in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

He has however impressed in the Championship previously at both Wolves and Wigan, playing 20 times in total for both teams, returning three goals and four assists.

Ojo has also made 13 senior appearances for the Liverpool team and has three years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
