Argentine rising star Juan Foyth is primed to fly to London and sign for Tottenham after confirming talks are advancing, according to Diario Hoy.

The Argentine media outlet claimed yesterday (Saturday) that the Estudiantes centre-back, 19, is set to travel to White Hart Lane and sign a contract “in the coming hours”.

Foyth admitted that talks are well underway after ESPN FC claimed that Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron has been in London this week to hold talks with Tottenham about the transfer of the Argentina Under-20 international.

“I know they are negotiating with Tottenham but I tried to stay focused on the game we were going to play,” Foyth is quoted as saying by Diario Hoy.

ESPN FC report that Spurs are confident of completing the signing of the teenager even though they are not willing to match the £15million valuation of the Argentine club.

It is said that the Premier League giants believe £10million to be a more realistic figure for Foyth, who can play in midfield as well as his more normal defensive role.

There appears to be a growing possibility that he will become Spurs’ first signing of the summer as the club rebuild their squad following the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City on Friday for a record-breaking fee for an English player of £54million.

Tottenham also agreed the transfer of another Argentine last night when Federico Fazio was sold to Roma for £2.8million.

Foyth, who is reported to have already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, was promoted to the Estudiantes first team in January of this year and made his debut for the club in March.

Tottenham are the only Premier League club yet to sign any players in this summer’s transfer window, although they have been linked to a number of possible recruits, such as Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson and Everton playmaker Ross Barkley.
